Fancy some sea cucumber?
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008I don’t quite remember how it started, but today, after donating to some Earth-saving organisations, Marina and I though how it would suck, if our (great amount) money would be spend on saving a sea cucumber. I believe most of you have never seen or hear of this great animal (some even refer to it as the king of the sea animality). If I’m right - go and type ’sea cucumber’ into Google and I think the image results will be self-explaining.
At first Marina did not believe it was really an animal, but a synonym for “someone took a crap in the see”. However I could convince her with this very educational video about the sea cucumber defence mechanism. As you can read in the video description “as a defense mechanism a sea cucumber will shoot part of its resperatory system out of its body when bothered. Fish will go after the guts and give the cucumber time to scoot away and live another day.” I’m really amazed how nature has come up with that one!
And it turns out - sea cucumbers are a delicates in some parts of Asia… Yuck!
